Gains the Gift of Sight Through Transplant
Growing up in the poverty-ridden town of Los Fierros, Nicaragua,
there had been many areas of neglect in Lisbeth’s life and unfortunately
her eyesight suffered tremendously as a result.
When Lisbeth was about 6 years old, an accident and subsequent eye infection
damaged her right eye so much that it needed to be removed and replaced
with a prosthetic eye. Recently, Lisbeth’s left eye became the
source of new problems and needed a corneal transplant. If she did not
receive the transplant, she would be left completely blind.
Through the help of the Heartland Lions Eye Banks Lisbeth received her
much needed cornea transplant. The Eye Bank provided the gratis cornea
that was used in her transplant surgery preformed in Springfield, Missouri.
The surgery was a success, and Lisbeth’s vision has improved tremendously.
Thanks to her new cornea, Lisbeth can attend school for the first time
in her life. After her transplant, Lisbeth returned home to Nicaragua
and is enjoying seeing the world more clearly through the gift of sight.
