Three-Year
Old Leyton Sees a Bright Future Ahead, Thanks to Transplant
In 2003, Leyton's mother, Fran was
devastated to learn that her two-year old would lose vision in his right
eye if he did not receive a cornea transplant. Leyton was born with cornea
scarring on his eye that eventually led to the cornea becoming cloudy-
leaving Leyton's vision very impaired.
Knowing that her young son faced surgery, Fran
hoped that Leyton could be brave to face his impending cornea transplant.
Fran also knew that although her son would be receiving the gift of sight,
another family would be losing a loved one.
"I think of that unknown family often, and
I can only hope that somehow their suffering is lessened, knowing that
my son has benefited so much from their gift," said Fran.
In December of 2003, Leyton received his cornea
transplant. His recovery in the past year has been remarkable, and Leyton
now sees 20/20 in both eyes. This year, as they celebrate the holidays,
Leyton and his family will give thanks for his new vision and keep the
memory of his donor in their hearts.
