Cornea Recipient

Dorthy DuNard
Mrs. Dorothy DuNard is a triple cornea recipient due to a virus she contracted in her left eye 10 years ago. The most recent transplant she received in May of 1999 was successful. Mrs. DuNard is grateful for the transplants because they have enabled her to witness the college graduations and marriages of her grandchildren. She is now a proud great-grandmother to four. The cornea transplants have also enabled Mrs. DuNard to continue enjoying her love of words. Mrs. DuNard is an avid reader and writer. In 1999, Mrs. DuNard had an article published in the fifth edition of Chicken Soup for the Soul. She won first place for the poem virtual dreamality, a poem which Mrs. Du Nard says "illustrates her recent education via the computer given to her by her family."

virtual dreamality

by

Dorothy DuNard

who was it asked
is dreaming our reality
or is reality the dream

are we awake when we're asleep
or do we slumber
in our wakefulness

if choice is mine
I'll call my dreams reality
where myth and magic merge

in childhood dreams
I lightly danced
the dual ropes of double dutch
yet during our wakeful school recess
my feet wove
such a tangled jump rope mess

in later years
when grief engulfed reality
a lucid dream paired
pain and wisdom
nudging growth
into transcendency

my study walls
in wide-awake reality
are papered with rejection slips
but these same walls
display a multitude of honors
during my poetic nighttime trips

when I'm awake or when I sleep
I punch the key to my imagination
to find the web site in my brain
